Helson Watch Company is a new watch brand who was founded by diving enthusiasts and watch fanatics. Earlier this month HWC started selling their first watch, a true diver’s watch, the Shark Diver. It features professional level performance, for an incredibly affordable price.
This pro diver watch features an automatic helium escape valve, a feature usually reserved for a more expensive range of watches. It features an automatic movement, which is not Swiss, but it is still nice considering the cost.
The Helson Shark Diver comes in a black, blue or brown dial, with matching bezels. The case is 45 mm x 18 mm and comes in either brushed or black PVD coated 316l surgical stainless steel. A generous amount of Superluminova C3 paint is used on the hands, markers and diver’s bezel - resulting in excellent night time and underwater visibility.
The movement is a Japanese self-winding mechanical and has an antimagnetic rating of 70,000 A/m. The watch is equipped with a 4 mm thick sapphire crystal.
It can withstand water-pressure at 2000 meters deep, which is equivalent to 6600 feet (over a mile deep). For a watch with these specifications, you might expect to pay a couple thousand dollars. But in this case, not even close.
The bracelets are mesh with more traditional links near the folding clasp. This definitely looks a little odd, but then again for the price does it really matter? You can always just add a NATO or a rubber strap.
Retail is $499 (stainless steel), $549 (PVD coated steel).
